Statement Clutch

lanvin clutch
Love this Lanvin clutch, using the bright leopard print from some of his dress designs this season. I swear I saw another version of the clutch, using the same fabric, out there as well.

Also notable in this ad, the ladies finger nails... interesting design.

Black & White

Gorgeous designs from Chanel. The top could be a wedding dress.

Below, a Narcisco Rodriguez design. (Isn't it amazing how some designers have those telltale signs and you just know it's theirs? The strapping and construction of the black parts of this dress are very Narcisco Rodriguez.)

I love this color block dress on Marisa Tomei. Designer: Juan Carlos Obando. I love how it drapes on her and the color choices.

Watchmen

So, I think that if anyone was to pull this dress off, it is probably Malin Ackerman. A slight girl promoting a superhero movie. I want to like this dress but it throws me a bit. I definitely applaud the brave choice of this gown- sometimes you gotta shake things up.

Adore La Vie

adore la vie candy shop dressMy friend Mandy has worked as a designer at Janie & Jack, Gymboree and others for years and she has finally started her own company! Called Adore La Vie, it offers Mother/Daughter designs to be worn together for special occasions or separately.

My favorite from the current collection is the Candy Shop design. Mandy, the designer is based in SF, and this photo shoot happened on Chestnut St in the old fashioned candy store- Sweet Dish. So cute.

Check out all her designs here: www.adorelaviedesigns.com

Why Would She Copy Him?

mena suvari and christian siriano at an oscar viewing party
Is there a reason Mena wanted the same hair-do as Christian from Project Runway? Or was this an accident? Either way, no me gusta.

Did You Guess This Designer?

reese witherspoon in rodarte
Look Book readers may have been able to guess the designer of Reese Witherspoon's Oscar gown.

It looked a little like their designs of seasons past (one design we posted about here, on Natalie below), but amped up to Oscar worthiness.

Designer: Rodarte. I liked Reese's dress. A daring choice but stunning in its own right.

How Many Carats?

Take a guess... 65 Carat Emerald Ring. Gorgeous. But what I really liked were the earrings. 115 Carat Emerald Earrings... Wow. All from Lorraine Schwartz.

Oscar Picks

I thought there were so many gorgeous dresses and ladies (a huge exception being Tilda Swinton- she is always wearing something weird, no?) but my favorites were:
1) Taraji P. Henson in Roberto Cavalli (just gorgeous, all the layers and the fitted style)

tajari p henson in roberto cavalli
2) Natalie Partman in Rodarte (I thought the color was outstanding and age appropriate)

3) Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab (though what really made her stand out was the awesome green jewelry)

Who were your favorites? Who did you hate?

Gwynnie

in a gorgeous Louis Vuitton dress from the British Elle.

Side note: click here to read an article about how Gwyneth has been getting a lot of flack for GOOP. Strange that people care so much about her website. Personally, I really like the recipe section- Make. For our family Oscar Party tonight, we are actually making a Spanish tapas meal today from her book with Mario Batali about traveling through Spain.

Also, I saw her new movie Two Lovers- good but pretty depressing, great acting though across the board.

Carvela

No, not the ice cream Carvel, though these bring as much joy as ice cream. A gorgeous pair of satin heels, called Abyss, from Carvela. And these won't totally break the bank at about $172.00.

What do we think? Only Katy Perry can get away with this. I definitely like the rocker spin on Hello Kitty regardless of personal taste issues with the outfit.

Posh Scores Big

Posh is getting RAVE reviews for the collection of dresses she debuted at the Fall '09 fashion shows this week. About and below, a few of my favorites. When/Where/How do we get them? So far, I've found that Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus carry her line. And more importantly, how much do they cost?

Compare and Contrast

matthew williamson coral dress on lindsey lohan
matthew williamson coral dress on eva longoria
So, I like this dress a lot better on Lindsey Lohan here than on Eva Longoria. I saw Eva in this the other day but declined to post it. It just pops a lot more on Lindsey- not sure if it's the red hair or just the photo. One thing I don't love, the way it makes her boobs look kinda weird.

The Veil

monique lhuillier veil
Always a debate... To have or not to have? Short or long? Simple or embellished?

This veil is absolutely stunning but such a look all on it's own. It would be a tricky one to pair with a dress, I think. It looks amazing with the gown pictured, an all lace number.

Oscar de la Renta

oscar de la renta wedding gown
Love this gorgeous Oscar de la Renta wedding gown. All those flower appliques... how many do you think you'd lose by the end of the night?

The Cinderella-like action (running down the stairs in "glass slippers") in the ad is cute too.

Wedding Theme

martha stewart weddings magazine cover
It's "wedding day" at Look Book. I'm sure you can all understand after looking at the above Martha Stewart cover why I had to purchase the magazine even though I have been married for a year and a half. I do know a friend of my sister that is engaged, and a sister of a friend that is engaged and so I bought it. Plus, as said friend pointed out, "It's research for the blog." True.

Regardless, the colorful cover literally jumped into my hands. Color is the theme and there are a million ideas... I loved the idea of having cotton candy as a treat on the sweets table.

Happy Valentine's Day

I saw Shopaholic yesterday and thought it was really funny. My sister and I were cracking up. I know it's not getting good reviews but it really was a fun movie. (Note: I never read the book, so I don't know if that made it more enjoyable to me.) I mean no one thought it was going to win an oscar- it's a chick flick. Some reviewers have said it's bad timing given our economic crisis but the message of the movie is actually quite appropriate for the housing/credit crisis we are going through: Don't buy things you can't afford.

I think all you shoppers out there would get a laugh. Isla was great as a crazed shopaholic.

First Item of Note

An Indulgence

british elle cover with gwyneth paltrow
I hardly ever buy foreign magazines unless in that country or given them by visitors, but with Gwyneth on the cover the March British Elle, I couldn't pass it up. I was drawn to her strange outfit and the pink, black and red type decorating the cover (my cover, the American UK cover- very confusing- has red as well).

PLUS, it's the fashion issue so it's really research and I can probably expense it. Must ask tax man about that... Probably not without the receipt. I always forget the receipt.

So, I'll be back with fashion from the UK Elle shortly.

I Can't Explain It

oscar de la renta guipure lace dress
I am so attracted to this Oscar de la Renta dress. I saw it in the windows of Saks on a walk-by one day but put it out of my head. Now I have stumbled across it yet again online. The orange and turquoise, while drawing me in, would probably look horrible once on. That's what I'm telling myself. That, and the price.

ShoeAholics

Being a ShoeAholic, I recognize the symptoms in others. This article about the "disease" really nailed it.

I think I've mentioned I keep my shoes in their boxes with a polaroid on the front for quick identification. Paula Abdul tags and numbers her shoes and outfits to more quickly pick her wardrobe. This method reminds me of Alicia Silverstone's computerized closet in Clueless that my type-A personality thought was the best invention ever. But none of this is even that crazy... Buying shoes that aren't even your size? That is nuts.

Natalie Portman: if you have any 8.5's you're tired of looking at, I'd like to speak to you.

What Recession?

balmain embroidered mini dress

Once again retail raises our spirits. I was looking at the new items on Net-A-Porter.com and saw this gorgeous Balmain mini-dress. Very cost prohibitive, of course, so imagine my surprise to see that it is sold out. A $12K dress sold out.

Now, there was probably only 1 in stock and I'm betting Gwyneth or similar snatched it up. I wish I could!
